Finding Success

On the eve of my next trip to Florida I am reflecting on how I’ve gotten to where I am in my life.

I won’t lie and say that I just worked hard so here I am. I have a lot of things working in my favor, number 1 being a partner who whole-heartedly supports my mission. It would be totally disingenous for me to talk about my success as a coach without mentioning him. I don't know that I’d be where I am today without him.

This is us:

“But Danielle, I’m single! Can I not find success without a partner??”

Of course you can! And here’s how you can start.

  1. What does success look like for you? Do you know? Journal about it… And if you don't know where to start, use this fill-in-the-blank prompt.

  2. Define success for yourself. Is it working less and spending more time with your family? Working remotely? Starting your own business? Becoming a millionaire? Waking up early and meditating every morning? What is success and how will you achieve it? Because if you don't know what you’re striving for you won’t know when you’ve reached it.

  3. What are the things you need to do in order to be successful? Make a list. Even if it’s 100 lines long, make it…

  4. Then pick one thing and do it. Chances are there is at least one thing on the list that you can do right now. Not only will this give you positive momentum to continue to implement these changes, it will show you that you are alrerady capable of living some of the aspects of a successful life.

  5. Make a plan! You’ve done one thing, but there are still 99 to do. So get out that planner (or iCal) and start scheduling.

  6. MOST IMPORTANTLY - decide when each task will be completed. Much like not having a definition of success, if you don’t have an end date you have no incentive to actually complete your goal!

This is obviously just a starting point, you’ll need to reassess and tweak your plan along the way.

Even though it’s cheesy, always remember that a journey of 1000 miles starts wth a single step. So if you ever feel like sucess of out of reach, just take one step.
